Elbasan is part of the central Albania, it lies in the area with the same name, in the right coast of Shkumbin River, and is one of the largest cities in Albania. This area has been inhabited since antiquity, due to climate and the favorable position. According to archaeological studies, Elbasan area has been inhabited since the first century AC. For the first time it is mentioned by name Skampis by Ptomeleu in the second century. In the middle of XVII century it had 2000 houses and 900 shops. Day of Summer is a popular holiday, which begins in the night of March 13th, when the whole family sits around the table filled with the characteristic food. On the morning of March 14, with water pump and turf they start working the land around the orange trees. This ritual is said to bring prosperity and wealth.
